With the adjustment of the minimum wage for 2022, unemployment insurance also underwent changes for that year. See the article below.

Unemployment insurance is one of the most important rights of Brazilian workers.

It is a benefit paid in cash over a specified period, in specific cases, mainly when a worker is fired from the company they worked for without just cause.

In addition to unfair dismissal, the worker can request it in cases of suspended employment contracts, if he is a professional fisherman during a closed season or if he has been rescued from conditions similar to slavery.

Your payment can vary from three to five installments, which are paid continuously or alternately, according to the time worked.

When was unemployment insurance created?

Unemployment insurance was created on January 11, 1990, through Law No. 7,998.

It was created with the aim of providing temporary financial assistance to workers while they search for a new professional position.

The Ministry of Labor and Employment is responsible for defining all its rules and criteria.

The paying agent is Caixa Econômica Federal.

Remembering that your payment is conditional on compliance with the rules we have previously specified.

How to receive unemployment insurance

The first step is to request the benefit, using one of the options below:

  • Through the portal “Gov.br“;
  • Through the “Digital Work Card” application; or
  • In person, at the Regional Labor Superintendencies units, after scheduling an appointment via telephone center 158.

Once the request is approved, the second stage is the withdrawal, which can be done in a few ways:

Unemployment insurance is the federal government's main aid for those who are unemployed.
  • In any bank account indicated in the application, made through TED;
  • If the citizen has not indicated any bank account, but has an individual account at Caixa, payment will be made automatically through it (with the exception of current accounts, operation 001);
  • As a last resort, if the worker does not have any account, a social savings account will be opened free of charge and without the need to present any documents;
  • This account will be operated through the “Caixa Tem” application, which allows the worker to withdraw this money, transfer it to other accounts and pay bills and bills.

What is the value of the unemployment insurance installments for 2022?

For 2022, the value of unemployment insurance installments continues to be calculated based on the average of the last 3 salaries received.

However, with the adjustment of the national minimum wage to R$ 1,212.00 from January 1st, this also becomes the minimum value for unemployment insurance benefits.

The maximum amount is R$ 1,911.84, for workers who received wages above R$ 2,811.60.
