An error in processing the 2019 base year resulted in 154,000 workers no longer receiving the benefit. See how to check if you are on this list.

In a time of economic crisis, workers are alert to any opportunity to increase their income that could alleviate the budget.

And one of the benefits most awaited by workers is the salary bonus, a benefit enjoyed annually by millions of Brazilians.

Due to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic, there were several changes and postponements in the withdrawal of the salary bonus.

Furthermore, many companies made mistakes when filling out their employees' Annual Social Information List (Rais), which led to a processing error and consequently non-payment of the benefit.

To correct this distortion, the Ministry of Labor and Pensions announced that it will pay the salary bonus for the 2019 base year to 154,000 workers who stopped receiving the money due to these processing errors.

In this article we have gathered all the information about dates, values and how to check if you will be eligible.

What is PIS/PASEP and who is entitled to it

Established by Law No. 7,998/90, the Salary Bonus is equivalent to a maximum amount of one minimum wage to be paid according to the annual schedule established by CODEFAT to workers who meet the requirements set forth by law.

With Law 13,134/15, the Salary Bonus now has a proportional value, related to the worker's length of service in the base year of the calculation.

This calculation corresponds to the number of months worked in the base year multiplied by 1/12 of the minimum wage in effect on the payment date.

To qualify for the allowance, the requirements are:

  • Be registered with the PIS for at least five years;
  • Having received an average monthly remuneration of up to two minimum wages during the base year;
  • Have carried out remunerated activity for a Legal Entity, for at least 30 days, consecutive or not, in the base year considered for calculation;
  • Have your data informed by the employer (Legal Entity) correctly in the Annual Social Information List (RAIS)/eSocial.

What is the difference between PIS and PASEP?

Many people have this doubt, but actually the difference is quite simple.

PIS and PASEP differ with regard to the type of company making the contribution.

The PIS – Social Integration Program, is paid to employees of private companies.

The PASEP – Civil Servant Heritage Formation Program, is paid to civil servants.

It should be noted that the PIS and PASEP number is the same as the Social Identification Number (NIS) and the Worker Identification Number (NIT).

How to receive unpaid amounts in 2019

Around 154 thousand workers who earn up to two minimum wages (R$ 2,424.00) and did not receive the 2019 salary bonus, began receiving these amounts this Tuesday (02/08/22).

After correcting these data discrepancies, payments are being deposited into the worker's digital account at Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF).

It is worth noting that the worker does not need to claim the benefit, as deposits will be made automatically until March according to the calendar below.

For PIS, the calendar is as follows:

How to calculate the amount of the salary bonus

The way to calculate the salary bonus is very simple.

You first need to know the number of months you worked in the base year of the benefit (e.g. someone who worked from January to June 2019 worked 6 months with a formal contract).

This number of months is then multiplied by 1/12 of the minimum wage in effect on the date of payment.

Remembering that for a month to be counted in the calculation, there must have been 15 days or more of work.

So, the pay table looked like this:

Months worked in 2019:Amount to be received:
01 monthR$ 101.00
02 monthsR$ 202.00
03 monthsR$ 303.00
04 monthsR$ 404.00
05 monthsR$ 505.00
06 monthsR$ 606.00
07 monthsR$ 707.00
08 monthsR$ 808.00
09 monthsR$ 909.00
10 monthsR$ 1010.00
11 monthsR$ 1111.00
