MEI 2022: learn how to open your company and what benefits you can have

The increase in the number of individual micro-entrepreneurs has aroused the interest of those who want to formalize themselves. Find out everything in the article below.
The economic crisis in our country has kept Brazilians awake at night.
In contrast, many of those who were laid off have chosen to be their own bosses when starting their companies.
Allied to this, there are still those who already have their companies for many years, but want to formalize their businesses and enjoy the benefits that this brings.
For these two cases, the best alternative is to become an Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI).
Noting that in 2021, more than 80% of all CNPJs opened were from MEI's.
What is Simple Nacional?
Simples Nacional is a shared regime for the collection, collection and inspection of taxes applicable to Micro and Small Businesses, provided for in Complementary Law No.
It covers the participation of all federal entities (Union, States, Federal District and Municipalities).
It is administered by a Management Committee composed of eight members: four from the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil (RFB), two from the States and the Federal District and two from the Municipalities.
In order to join Simples Nacional, the following conditions must be met:
- Fit in the definition of micro-enterprise or small business;
- Comply with the requirements set out in the legislation; It is
- Formalize the option for Simples Nacional.
Some characteristics of the National Simple System:
- It is optional;
- Covers several taxes;
- Payment of the covered taxes is paid through a single collection document - DAS;
- Providing ME/EPP with an electronic system to calculate the monthly amount due and generate the DAS;
- Requires presentation of a single and simplified declaration of socioeconomic and tax information;
- The deadline for collecting the DAS until the 20th of the month following the month in which the gross revenue was earned.
What are the benefits of becoming an MEI?
The main advantages of becoming an MEI are:
- Formalization: MEI is exempt from federal taxes, having to pay only the DAS (Simples Nacional Collection Document), which aggregates all taxes in a single tab, which can vary from R$ 56 to R$ 61, depending on the activity;
- Pension Security: every MEI is entitled to retirement due to age or disability, in addition to sickness, maternity and family pension aid in the event of death;
- Commercial Credibility: the possibility of issuing an invoice brings new buyers to MEI, in addition to better negotiation with suppliers;
- Financial Credibility: through CNPJ, MEI can acquire credit and debit card machines, open a PJ account and have access to loans with lower interest rates.
What are the requirements and how to open your MEI 2022?
Before opening your MEI, check out the requirements you need to meet:
- Be over 18 years old;
- Not be a partner, administrator or holder of another CNPJ;
- Earn (expected) a maximum of R$ 81,000.00 per year, from January to December;
- Hire a maximum of 1 employee;
- Fit in the list of allowed activities for MEI's (https://www.gov.br/empresas-e-negocios/pt-br/empreendedor/quero-ser-mei/atividades-permitidas);
- Not be a pensioner or federal public servant;
- Have a permanent visa in Brazil, in the case of foreigners.
To formalize and obtain the CNPJ, follow the steps below:
- Create a password to access the Federal Government Services Portal, the Platform gov.br;
- If you do not have the password, click on the option “Register”;
- Access the Entrepreneur Portal;
- Check if your activity is allowed for MEI, clicking on “Who can be MEI?”;
- Click on “I want to be MEI” and then on “Formalize”;
- Fill in your registration.
Remembering that the documents required for registration in the MEI are the CPF, Voter Title, Proof of Residence, number of the last two Income Tax Returns (if any) and an active cell phone number.
That's it, your registration comes out on time and you can now enjoy all the benefits of being a MEI.
