The first month of the year is also the month in which the national minimum wage is readjusted, and with it come state readjustments. Check the new values in the article.

The new value of the minimum wage for 2022 began to take effect on January 1st.

The annual readjustment of the minimum wage is the basis for all other increases, whether in private categories or in regional minimum wages.

In addition, hourly workers will also have their earnings changed after this readjustment.

See below for all information about this readjustment.

How is the national minimum wage calculated in 2022?

The minimum wage is readjusted annually by the INPC – National Consumer Price Index. The forecast of the Ministry of Economy is that the indicator will increase by 10.02% in 2021.

The national minimum wage serves as a parameter for around 60 million people in Brazil, of which 25 million are beneficiaries of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), either as retirees or pensioners.

The regional minimum wage serves as a parameter for categories in the private sector that are not contemplated in collective agreements or conventions, such as domestic servants, for example.

Always be aware of your state's floor, as it may not follow the national floor.

Remembering that according to the new labor rules in force after the last reform, collective agreements and conventions also supersede the values established by the government.

What is the value of the national minimum wage in 2022

Even with the readjustment, the value of the minimum wage has not accompanied the rise in prices, causing Brazilians to lose purchasing power.

The value of the national minimum wage for 2022 was set at R$ 1,212.00.

Remembering that in 2021 the national minimum wage was R$ 1,100.00.

In other words, this year's value is almost 11% higher than last year's.

However, the economic forecasts of the Ministry of Economy and the IBGE on inflation bring not very good news for Brazilians.

With the accumulated rise in prices, the increase in the national minimum wage will only take place in numbers, as it will not represent a real increase in citizens' consumption.

What are the values of the regional minimum wages in 2022

Each state can define its own rules, following the national minimum wage or using its own values.

Thus, the increases in minimum wages by state will take place as follows:

  • Acre, Alagoas, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Rondônia, Roraima, Sergipe and Tocantins: follow the value of the national minimum wage, that is, R$ 1,212.00;
  • Paraná: does not follow the national minimum wage. The increase has not yet been defined, but it will follow the INPC index, which will increase the minimum wage in the state to an amount between R$ 1,600.00 and 1,870.00;
  • Rio de Janeiro: does not follow the national minimum wage. Has not yet defined the increase;
  • Rio Grande do Sul: does not follow the national minimum wage. It has already been readjusted in December 2021 to R$ 1,305.56;
  • Santa Catarina: does not follow the national minimum wage. The readjustment will be given in March 2022, with the current floor of R$ 1,281.00;
  • São Paulo: does not follow the national minimum wage and there is no adjustment forecast for 2022. The current floor is R$ 1,163.55.

Remembering that the readjustment date can also vary from state to state.
