Digital Certificate 2022: what it is, what it is for and how to get one

Have you ever been asked for a Digital Certificate for something you needed to access over the internet? In the following article we will explain everything you need to know.
With the increasing use of the internet, the transactions and services that can be done online are also increasing.
The list of things that need to be resolved in person is getting shorter and shorter.
This brought the need for more security in this exchange of information, since in virtual transactions you are not seeing the person on the other side, which can lead to fraud.
With that in mind, the Digital Certificate was developed.
What is Digital Certificate
Digital Certificate is the electronic document that enables the secure exchange of information between two parties, with the guarantee of the identity of the sender, the integrity of the message and, optionally, its confidentiality.
Examples of use and activities that can be secured by a Digital Certificate are:
- Signing and sending documents and statements over the internet;
- Mandatory for companies that issue electronic invoices (NF-e);
- Use on eSocial for individuals and legal entities;
- Access in virtual environments with security.
Digital certificates are available for both natural and legal persons and government agents.
How to apply for the Digital Certificate 2022
There are several companies that offer digital certification services.
All of them send the new certifications to be approved by SERPRO – Federal Data Processing Service.
The procedure for obtaining the 2022 Digital Certificate is:
- Get in touch with the nearest certifier (Valid, Soluti, Certisign, among others);
- Choose the type of certificate requested (usually there is the A1, valid for one year and the A3, valid for three years);
- Schedule an appointment and show up to present the documentation;
- Present the supporting documentation, register an access password and make the payment;
- After the request, SERPRO takes about two business days to process and approve it.
Okay, after approval, all you have to do is use your Digital Certificate 2022.
It can be obtained through a digital file (A1) or through a token (A3).
These certificates are valid for 1 and 3 years, respectively.
To renew them after their expiration, contact the company to schedule a new issue.
